Our Lodge

In December 2009, we opened Singharaja Garden AGRO & ECO-Lodge — an eco-lodge in Sri Lanka certified for sustainability and social business.

Look forward to a special stay in one of our individually designed bungalows or guest rooms. Our approximately three-hectare terraced hillside property is home to three bungalows, our main house and a yoga hall with private apartment — all generously spaced apart.

With a maximum of nine guests, Singharaja Garden deliberately remains small and personal. Between our organically cultivated gardens and the untouched tropical nature, you will find peace, space and privacy — a place to relax, breathe deeply and simply arrive.

Who is Singharaja Garden for?

Singharaja Garden is for people who wish to experience Sri Lanka away from large hotel resorts — quietly, personally, close to nature and with time to arrive.

Our small AGRO & ECO-Lodge is especially suited to couples, solo travellers and small groups of friends who appreciate privacy, tropical nature and a sustainable way of life. It is also an ideal place for yoga travellers, hikers, cyclists, nature and bird lovers, and anyone wishing to slow down consciously.

Guests planning a time out, a retreat, a sabbatical or a longer stay with remote work will find space here to live, work and recharge — surrounded by rainforest, organic gardens and the rhythm of the jungle.

Our lodge is intentionally small and personal: a maximum of nine guests enjoy peace, individual attention and generous space between the bungalows. Our vegetarian and vegan cuisine is an integral part of our sustainable concept.

Good to know: Singharaja Garden is set in hilly tropical nature. Paths and steps are part of the experience here. In return, you can expect plenty of privacy, natural pools, fresh air and a genuine closeness to the rainforest.

Our Guest Rooms

Our cosy guest rooms are located in the two wings of our main house, each with a sleeping area and private bathroom. They are a more affordable alternative to our private bungalows and are especially suitable for solo travellers who would like to enjoy the benefits of our AGRO & ECO-Lodge.

Our restaurant and Ayurvedic area are close by. Beneath the trees, a shaded hammock space and the chilling zone in our outdoor restaurant invite you to relax.

A stepped path leads to one of our streams. Deep in the jungle green, a small natural pool with a waterfall has formed here — perfect for a refreshing dip. As soon as your first foot touches the water, the little cleaning fish are ready for their natural pedicure.

Sabbatical, Retreat & Remote Work at Singharaja Garden

For a longer time out in tropical nature — with space to live, work and recharge.

Step out of everyday life and into tropical nature: Singharaja Garden is a special place for people seeking a longer break. Whether you are planning a sabbatical, a personal retreat stay, focused remote work or simply a period with more calm, nature and new perspectives — here you will find space to settle in.

Our offer is for solo travellers and couples who would like to experience Sri Lanka deeply while living comfortably, independently and well cared for. Singharaja Garden can also provide an inspiring setting for small, individually organised retreats.

Twice a year — in spring and autumn — we rent out our spacious private apartment for two months at a time, for a maximum of two guests. The stay covers up to 60 days, equivalent to two monthly rental periods.

The open-plan apartment includes a combined living and sleeping area, tea kitchen, office, bathroom and two terraces. The large yoga hall and two mountain bikes are also available for your private use.

In addition, you will enjoy daily vegetarian and vegan half board, as well as regular cleaning service. This leaves time for what matters most: slowing down, restoring your energy and discovering Sri Lanka’s land, people and nature in a personal way.

Our Bungalows

1. Paddy Field

Our especially private bungalow with its own freshwater natural pool.

Our especially private Paddy Field bungalow enjoys wide views across the terraced rice fields. From your veranda, you can watch herons searching for food among the green rice stalks and, with a little luck, local small farmers going about their daily work in the fields.

A stone staircase leads directly from the veranda to your own freshwater natural pool. Its design is inspired by the traditional irrigation systems of the surrounding rice fields, and fresh water flows through it continuously.

A second shaded terrace directly by the pool offers plenty of privacy and a wonderful place to read, relax and simply be. Paddy Field is ideal for guests who especially value peace, nature and their very own private pool area.

2. Cinnamon Garden – NEW

Our exceptional nature loft on a private hillside level.

A small stepped path leads you to Cinnamon Garden — an open-plan loft on its own private level on the hillside. Its special feature is a large rock, harmoniously integrated into the architecture. From the partly covered living and terrace area, the view opens out into the tropical green.

Cinnamon Garden is ideal for guests who appreciate peace, nature and a special way of living, and who do not mind a few steps. Another path leads to one of the natural pools. Or you may simply enjoy the outdoor shower on your private level — surrounded by tropical nature.

3. Tea Garden

Our tropical nature bungalow beside the tea field.

Tea Garden is nestled in tropical greenery and looks out across a tea field lined with coconut palms. Once a week, you can watch tea being harvested on our property from your veranda — a quiet glimpse into daily life and work in the tropical garden.

From the private bungalow garden, a direct path leads to your natural pool. Guests of the Cinnamon Garden bungalow reach the same pool via their own separate and sheltered staircase. This allows everyone to enjoy peace and privacy.

Tea Garden is ideal for guests who would like to stay very close to tropical nature, enjoy the view across the tea field and refresh themselves in natural water from time to time.

Naturally ventilated and well protected

Our rooms and bungalows are intentionally designed without air conditioning. Their open tropical architecture and green garden setting allow for pleasant natural airflow.

Instead of glass windows, we use fine stainless-steel mosquito screens. They provide reliable protection from mosquitoes and other insects while allowing fresh air and natural light inside. For this reason, mosquito nets over the beds are not necessary.

As an ECO-Lodge certified for sustainability and social business, we consciously avoid air conditioning and rely on natural materials, good ventilation and mindful energy use.

STARTING RATES

Our private bungalows are available from €170 per night for 2 guests — including vegetarian/vegan half board.

Our guest rooms are available from €90 per night, also including vegetarian/vegan half board.

Book at least 90 days before arrival and receive a 10% early-booking discount. Returning guests receive an additional 10% discount on the accommodation rate when booking early.

Our Restaurant — A Culinary Journey

In our panoramic restaurant with its outdoor terrace, we invite you on a culinary journey. With wide views into the tropical green, you can enjoy the variety of Sri Lankan cuisine — fresh, aromatic and prepared with many ingredients from our own garden.

Many of our dishes are inspired by Ayurvedic cuisine. We serve vegetarian and vegan food throughout your stay and deliberately do not serve meat or fish. Sri Lankan cuisine is particularly well suited to this: vegetables, pulses, rice, coconut and spices shape many traditional dishes.

Our partly open restaurant with outdoor terrace is the daily meeting place at Singharaja Garden. In a relaxed, family-like atmosphere, guests and hosts come together, share travel experiences and enjoy time together. This is a place to eat, talk, laugh and simply arrive.

If you wish, you are welcome to look over our cook’s shoulder, visit the market with him and then learn for yourself in a cooking class how Sri Lankan specialities are prepared.

Slow Cooking — Time for Flavour

For us, good food begins long before it is served. With slow cooking, we take time for carefully selected ingredients, traditional preparation and the spices of Sri Lanka. Cooked slowly and with care, flavours, colours and aromas can fully unfold.

Our lovingly created spice and fruit gardens supply part of the ingredients. We source additional fruit and vegetables from neighbouring small farmers and from Sri Lanka’s hill country — preferably seasonal, organically grown and produced in Sri Lanka. In this way, we support local value creation and avoid long transport routes whenever possible.

Cooking Classes & Market Visits

Discover Sri Lankan cuisine in a practical way: together with our cook, you choose fresh ingredients at the market, explore spices and then prepare a vegetarian or vegan dish.
